Declutter These Areas To Stop Mice Hiding

One of the easiest ways to stop mice is to declutter your home. The unfortunate fact is that mice LOVE to hide in clutter. Mice are very, very tiny and can easily live undetected in clutter. It provides them with a safe, warm, and dry place to live. Certain types of clutter, such as newspapers, also make the perfect material for building nests.

Stop mice by removing clutter in these areas

To truly stop the mice in your home, you need to clear up these areas. If you can’t get rid of them then you will need to invest in residential pest control.

1. Kitchens

Above all, mice love to hide in your kitchen. This room often provides them with an all you can eat buffet. Mice will usually hide near sources of food. This usually means cupboards they can get into and the floor under counters. Try to keep these cupboards as empty as possible. Only store what you need in them and make sure you know the signs of mice.

You should throw away everything that you’re not using. This may include boxes of food that you’re not going to eat. Throw away any glass bottles or plastic containers that you’re not using. Basically, you want your cupboards as clean and empty as possible.

Another kitchen area to pay attention to is your bin. To stop mice, you need to remove rubbish as often as possible. Piles of overflowing rubbish in your kitchen, or outside your house, makes the perfect place for mice to hide.

2. Bathrooms

The same rules apply to your bathroom. You need to throw away anything you’re not using. This includes old bits of soap. Mice may eat these. Also throw away old shampoos, conditioners, and body washes. Another place to pay attention to is the cupboards in your bathroom. Bathroom cupboards are often dark, musty and rarely opened. Mice love this because it means they can hide for ages without being discovered.

You should air these cupboards out, and also throw out any rubbish stored in them. It’s a good idea to only store consumables in these cupboards. To stop mice avoid putting things like towels in them. These should be stored elsewhere.

3. Attics and lofts

Your attic is often the best hiding place for mice. In fact, you may already have mice in your attic. You can avoid this by routinely inspecting this room.  At least once a year you should go up there and clean everything out. Go through every inch of your attic and check for mice. If you have boxes stored then open them up and look inside. Throw away anything which you do not absolutely need. If you have a cellar do the same thing. This may be hard, but you have to do it to stop mice. You may also want to place traps around your attic, loft, or cellar.

4. Bedrooms

The problem with bedrooms is that mice often hide beneath large pieces of furniture. You should move beds and furniture and clean beneath them. Another place you want to check are your cupboards. Avoid stuffing cupboards with things you don’t need.

5. Offices and studies

Most offices are jam packed with papers. These attract mice. But we can guarantee you right now that the majority of these papers aren’t needed. The digital age is now taking over. Do yourself a favour and throw them out. Doing this will immediately stop mice. If you absolutely have to keep these papers then consider digitising them. You can easily get a scanner and transfer important documents onto your computer. They can also be stored in suitable storage to stop mice being attracted to them.
